Enlightenment Teaching of Krishna in Bhagavad Gita - Part 8 of 8
athavaa bahuunaa etena kim jnaathena tava arjuna |
vishTabhya aham idam krutsnam ekaamSena sthita: jagat || (BG – 10:42)
Meaning: But of what use to you is all this extensive knowledge, Arjuna? I stand sustaining this whole universe with a fragment of My power.
Have you ever seen Krishna, the God and Lord of this universe? I understand it is less likely for you to have seen Him because only an enlightened can see Him. But do you know that Krishna doesn’t appear in human form with two hands or in angel form with four hands to the enlightened? Of course He can appear in any form He chooses but during the process of spiritual enlightenment He always appears in His innate form - otherwise, enlightenment will not happen to the seer. And His innate form is nowhere near the gross forms we are used to.
Fine. How does this innate form look like? It is an all-pervading omnipresent Field. It is something like an electromagnetic wave field. It is something like our atmospheric air that surrounds our earth. You can’t perceive It with your brain but an enlightened can with his fine-tuned brain. This spiritual Field is actually composed of three components. Let us go for an analogy to avoid further complication.
Imagine a very vast and shallow lake. Assume that there is absolutely no water in the lake and it is completely dry. Suppose you are standing naked in the middle of the lake. Imagine also that many other naked human beings are also moving here and there in the lake. Well, this is the best example I can conceive with my pathetic intelligence to describe the mind-boggling appearance of the first component of Lord Field.
It is a huge Sink that completely absorbs the consciousness of the seer and others. Due to the complete annihilation of his ego-principle, the seer feels that his consciousness is thoroughly drained and he moves like an insentient thing. He also sees that all others are also bereft of their consciousness though they themselves don’t feel so. He sees that all sentient beings including birds and animals are just puppets virtually floating in this Sink Field. This Field component is the Supporter component of Lord of the universe. Can you follow me? You may want to read this para again if you can’t, before moving to the second component of Lord Field.
Now assume that the lake is flooded with water. All moving people are completely immersed in water - okay, up to the neck for the sake of this illustration. When the second component of Lord Field gets superimposed on the first, the seer feels that he is penetrated and immersed by this spectacular second Field component. He feels that he has regained his consciousness but it no longer belongs to him. It penetrates and immerses all sentient beings including birds and animals. It doesn’t belong to anyone. No one can claim ownership to that Field. This Consciousness is common to all sentient beings. And no one any longer has a separate exclusive consciousness. This Field component is the Pervader component of Lord of the universe. I hope you didn’t lose my hand somewhere. Let us move on to the third component of Krishna.
Continuing our lake illustration, the lake is filled with water and everyone is immersed in the lake water. All have regained their consciousness but it is a common Consciousness belonging to none. Now, imagine that the lake water is black-dyed completely. The whole lake water becomes dark-colored. Everyone claims that it is their exclusive consciousness shared by others. The seer has gained the ownership of his consciousness but it is no longer his individuated one. He has gained the ownership of universal Consciousness that is not his exclusive property. This is the third component of Krishna, the universal Source.
When you perceive this spiritual Field of triple components within yourself, you get enlightened. Then you’ll clearly know Who Krishna is.
And do you know a great secret of life? You are experiencing this Field everyday right from your birth - yes, you are immersed exactly in this pleasant Field of Krishna in your dreamless deep sleep. However, as you are unconscious during dreamless deep sleep, you don’t get enlightened - Enlightenment is a conscious process.
The soul of an enlightened, will quickly get liberated from the shackles of insentient matter of his body-mind. The liberated will always see with his sensitized eyes and brain the spiritual universe that is pervading this material universe.
For you who has probably just embarked on the spiritual journey, enlightenment may be way ahead. You may ask me what fun is there in knowing all this stuff so early. It serves two purposes. One, you have your target a bit more clear now. More important, you’ll now understand how to worship Krishna so as to become a devotee as soon as possible - for you should now know what it means when we define Krishna as Lord and God of this universe.
And even if you are not interested in spiritual benefits, if you worship Krishna armed with this knowledge, you’ll get divine assistance from Krishna for your material ambitions as well.
