How to get Enlightenment with Divine Assistance

Enlightenment Teaching of Krishna in Bhagavad Gita - Part 1 of 8

mayi aasaktamanaa: paarta yogam yunjan madaaSraya: |
asamSayam samagram maam yathaa jnaasyasi tat SruNu || (BG – 07:01)

Meaning: Arjuna, hear how you will know Me wholly without doubt by performing yoga with mind set on Me and supported by Me.

Enlightenment is achieved only after performing Karma Yoga, followed by Jnana Yoga and then by Bhakti Yoga.

Our attachment to the results of the actions we are performing, is renounced by Karma Yoga - this leads to the separation of our soul from our body. Our ignorance of doership of the actions we are performing, is renounced by Jnana Yoga - this leads to the realization of Self of our soul. After these attachment and ignorance are renounced, the individuation of the Self of our soul is renounced by means of Bhakti Yoga - this leads to the oneness of our soul with Lord of the universe, which is otherwise called the Enlightenment.

It is quite difficult for us to perform even Karma Yoga, leave alone Jnana Yoga, on our own effort. Bhakti Yoga as defined here cannot even be understood by us. All we know about bhakti is to go to some temple to worship an Idol of God or do some rituals to an Idol of God in our residence. Therefore, Enlightenment is a distant dream for most of us.

Here Krishna claims that we need not do, on our own effort, Bhakti Yoga or Jnana Yoga or even Karma Yoga for us to get Enlightenment. He promises that He will make us do Karma Yoga first, followed by Jnana Yoga and finally Bhakti Yoga. Just as a mother will grasp the palm of her kindergarten kid and write alphabets.

We’ll see what the kid should do in order to get this spectacular assistance from its mother.
